MANILA, Philippines - As
the Negros Season of Culture launched on November 5, 2020, a day commemorating the Negrenses'
revolt against the Spanish colonizers on that same date in 1898, multi-awarded actor Joel Torre, who hosted the launch of the three year long program highlighting Negrense arts and culture, welled up in emotions speaking fondly of his guru, the late Director Peque Gallaga.
"I owe my career to Peque (Gallaga). I wouldn't be here in my position now if it wasn't for him ", says Joel Torre.
"We deeply admire how Peque advocated for Negros through his work so much so that when you visit various landmarks of Negros, you will have flashbacks of the scenes from his films. Like the Ara-al falls in Gintubdan, is unofficially called Oro falls (from the Peque Gallaga masterpiece, Oro,Plata, Mata)."
